Blue and Gold Macaw

Current Status: ADOPTABLE!

Hatch Date: 2000

Sex: Male

Likes:

  • Listening to his own echo and having “rawr” wars with keeper Diane

  • Imitating other macaws’ vocalizations when he’s up to no good so that the blame never falls on him, yet always being the first to tattle on others

  • Eating (and when he’s done, eating some more), and calling any item that can possibly be eaten a “cracker”

  • Dogs and dog people

  • Throwing his water bowl like he’s going for the gold in shot-put (and, often hitting unsuspecting humans with it!)

  • Cackling evilly at the expense of others

Dislikes:

  • People who pay more for a side-salad instead of just eating the french fries that come with their meal

  • Being expected to be quiet (he can’t help it, he’s just honest!)

Tika used to board with us when his family traveled frequently. Unfortunately, a change in their life required their permanent relocation, and their new location would not allow Tika to come, so he came to live here permanently in 2014. Tika will need to go to a highly experienced home, with owners who are confident in dealing with the frequent sass and occasional biting that accompany him as a big, rowdy macaw. He has lived with dogs before and would likely do well around them again, but will likely do best as the only bird in a future home.
