Rainier is a special addition to the Free Flight flock! His arrival comes with quite the back story! In January 2026, a concerned citizen found him, injured, in Orange County, and brought him to a veterinarian where his care was assumed by AURA (Avian Underdogs Rescue Association). Assuming he was a member of one of the wild flocks, he was then transferred to SoCal Parrot for further treatment and rehabilitation….. where it was determined he was far too obese, and plucked, to have ever been a wild bird. (Even though he wasn’t tame, he’d clearly lived among humans!) They spent considerable time searching for his owners while he underwent treatment; but sadly, the search was unsuccessful and the little guy needed to be placed in a setting more appropriate for human-habituated parrots - somewhere like Free Flight!

Rainier became an official Free Flight resident in April 2026. As our newest resident, he’ll be settling in behind the scenes for some time yet. We look forward to earning his trust and discovering his unique personality in the months ahead!
