Exotic Bird Adoption Program

If you would like to adopt a companion bird, Free Flight is here to help. We carefully evaluate each bird and prospective adoptive family to ensure mutual bonding and suitability.

Sponsoring a parrot can be very rewarding for those of us who are not in a position to have a parrot in their home.

Are you thinking about adding a bird to your family?

Consider adoption - due to the longevity of most species of parrots, it’s inevitable that at some point many parrots will be in need of a new home. Why not make it yours! Free Flight’s experienced staff can help you find the right companion to ensure bonding with you and your family.

Our adoption placement success is directly related to our philosophy of requiring multiple visits to the sanctuary for bonding and learning, as well as our careful evaluation and screening of prospective adopters.

Did You Know?
Learning in early life is important to all parrots, and much of that learning is social learning.
— Free Flight Fun Fact

If you are interested in adopting a companion parrot...

  • Plan to VISIT, often

    • An average adoption will take 6 months of visitation. This is the most important component in our adoption program. We want to get to know you; but most importantly, we need our birds to get to know you. Building a strong, trusting relationship between human and bird is essential.

  • Speak with staff while on site

    • Not all our birds are adoptable, and some require much more experience than others. We want to be sure you know the unique personality and needs of each parrot before adoption can be considered.

For the best interests of our flock, we reserve the right to deny any potential applicant. We do not ship, breed, or sell birds. We will not adopt a bird to anyone who intends to breed the bird. We do not adopt to minors (under 18).

Interested in Adopting?

Please make a reservation to visit the sanctuary. As noted above, this will be the first visit of many and will give you the opportunity to meet our flock members and speak with staff about your interest in adoption.

Or, feel free to email us at freeflightbirds@live.com with any additional questions.

Bird Sponsorship Program

It takes an average of $583 a year to support one young, healthy bird who may be with us for upwards of two years, or even with us in lifelong residency if she/he requires it. Cost of living increases substantially for special needs and geriatric parrots - who now make up most of Free Flight’s flock.

Sponsorship is a way to improve the quality of daily life for a parrot while she/he is in the sanctuary.

Do you have a favorite bird that you visit at Free Flight or online that you would like to sponsor? Or maybe you simply want to help Free Flight fulfill our mission? Whatever the reason may be, your support is invaluable to help us care for our birds.

Bird Adoption Program Success Stories

Both the happiest and saddest days at Free Flight are when one of our flock leaves to start life in their new home. We are sad to see them go but so thrilled that they have a new loving home.
