Jr Docent

The Jr. Docent Program was new for Summer 2012 and will be repeated for Summer 2013. It is designed for youths 13 to 18 years of age. We will be conducting  two week sessions, 3 hours per day, Monday through Thursday 9am to 12pm. Our staff will teach bird handling, nutrition and general care, familiarization with bird behavior, personality and individual differences.

Session Dates are:

Session 1 July 8th through July 18th

Session 2 July 22rd through August 1st

Included will be a visit to our next door neighbor Animal and Bird Hospital of Del Mar for exposure to bird related procedures.

Also, the Jr Docent will gain general experience in running a boarding and aviary operation including our Bird Tracker bird accounting system. The docents will also be oriented in the needs of a non-profit, generating donations and membership sales.

Upon completion of their program they will be encouraged to volunteer on a regular basis.
