Donate a Bird
There are many reasons why a bird ends up at Free Flight. It could be that the owner's health or domestic situation has changed, or that the owner didn't realize they would have the responsibility of caring for a creature with the emotional intellegence of two year old for up to 80 years! Sometimes economic factors also mandate the relinquishment of a bird, especially in today's economy.
Whatever the reason, Free Flight must make a decision as to whether we can help a particular bird. Most birds can be re-socialized and put up for adoption, however others are judged to possess behavior that prohibits adoption and stay at Free Flight to live out their lives. Still others stay with us to assist in our Outreach programs.
In all cases we seek a donation to cover at least the 1st year's expense for an initial Vet Check and other regular care. The reality is that it can take anywhere from 3 to 5 years for a bird to find it's new perfect family, and that the average bird costs $583 per year to support not including labor to support their boarding. This is a significant part of Free Flight's total expenses.
